Dance As a Mirror of Life
With its highs and lows, it’s rapid pace and yet it’s sometimes stagnant phases, that can contort us into the most uncomfortable positions, life and dance have much in common.
Some of the photographs have been taken in the studio where all dance is born, allowing one to experience the crudeness, beauty and the primaeval passion of each step and every gesture. Some of them have been taken on the streets of Amsterdam and Paris where we see the sincerity, the raw power of enthusiasm and overwhelming joy of the dancers.
The intention is for the viewer to understand the work, sacrifice and raw energy that is part of every dancers’ nature, at whatever stage of dance training they may be at. Dance requires one to delve deep within and reveal a portion of themselves that otherwise would remain hidden. The end result is so powerful that it is able to stimulate all the senses.
As in life, there is always more than one thing happening simultaneously which makes it rich and eventful, this is also what adds layers of beauty to dance composition. The interaction of city forms and lights helps us to see the motion and hear the music sound. The reflections of the dancers create different perspectives and act as a truthful reminder that life mirrors back to us our true essence and there is always more than one way to look at something.
